Hi
I was researching dientamoeba fragilis as I
have had it for a long time. I went to a specialist and he put me
on Idoquinol 20 days then Flagyl 10 days followed again by idoquinol
seemed to work but always came back.
I have heard that they associtae this with pin worms...I'm trying
to reasearch the fraglis and understand its cycle in order to kill
the bastard . Please send my your information on fraglis I am also
going to look into pinworms. Hope my information is helpful to you
Sincerely S.
Hi,
I've done some research at our medical school one of the journels
was from New Zealand . One researcher swallowed some pinworm
eggs and was infected 25 days later with both pinworms and d fraglis.
The pinworm medicine seems to be working for me . I am going
to try repeating it 25 days after the first dose. On the botttle
it says to repeat it 2 to 4 weeks
We have discovered that our water is contaminated so that
could very well be the cause. It was contaminated
before and we put in a new well 2 years ago I had been well for
1 years and 1/2 . I did not suspect the well as it was new.. Now
I have to try and treat the well.
It is so frustrating.
Hope to hear from you

Hi Jackie,
My daughter seems to be over her infection of DF. It
proved to be a stubborn bug to get rid of, we had to treat her twice.
I am still not sure where she picked it up from, we had our water
tested and no one else in our family developed DF. I suspect she got
it from an island we stopped at this past summer to swim, it was populated
with cows.
My family physician had not seen a case of DF before
and couldn't offer me much information.

Hi Jackie,
How interesting! I wish there had have been a site like yours up this
past summer, I couldn't find much information on d. fragilis
when I needed it. My daughter was treated with Metronidazole.
It wasn't easy getting a three and a half year old to take the tablets
but I came up with an idea that worked quite well. I coated the bottom
of a teaspoon with applesauce, crushed the tablet and placed the powdered
tablet on the applesauce and then put more applesauce over the crushed
tablet. I still use this method today with Acetaminophen. Perhaps
it will help other parents.
Good luck!

Hi Jackie,
My story sounds like so many others... Initially I was looking for
information on D. Fragilis for my daughter (then age 3). She
was diagnosed in 1998 with D. Fragilis treated for 28 days with Metronidazole
and tested again. The results came back positive and
she was treated again with Metronidazole & retested, once again there
was D. Fragilis present. At that point my family doctor referred
me a pediatrician. I was told by the pediatrician that the D.
Fragilis would probably live in her system harmoniously and could
flare up every now and then. Sounded like BS to me but her
symptoms had disappeared after the second treatment. There have been
a few flare ups but what is peculiar is that I had come to believe
my daughter may have IBS.
How very helpful reading the comments from other people. Let me tell
you why... During a trip to Mexico in 1987 I developed "Montezuma's
Revenge". After returning home I stayed ill for several weeks and
finally went to my physician. He ordered test for a number of different
parasites and the results were positive and I was treated. Unfortunately
I can't recall what I was treated with or what parasite I was diagnosed
with having. Over the next three years I had frequent episodes
of diarrhea, stomach cramps, weight loss, tender abdomen, headaches.
I could not get half way through a meal with out excusing
myself to the washroom. I never knew when the attacks would start
so I couldn't stray too far from a washroom. Eventually after ruling
out allergies, Chrone's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, I was
diagnosed with IBS and told to live with the symptoms. That
was 10 years ago. Modulon helps relieve the severe intestinal cramps
but it is a mask as it does not cure the problem.
Now after reading all the wonderful emails you've received from others
who have contracted D. Fragilis I'm wondering if that DF is what we
both have. Sure sounds like a possibility. I plan to ask my physician
to test me for DF.
Thanks... L
