Thank you very much for your prompt reply. We had tried Rifaximin 600TID for 14 days. Everything was fine, patient was asymptomatic with good appetite and well being for 2 months only and then it relapsed I will try him out on this regime. Is there any advice on changes required in his diet ?. He is a non smoker mainly a vegetarian and moderate drinker. Has a constipation problem for many many years- atonic intestinal syndrome, likely.
Kind regards,
Dr xx.

I just spoke on the phone to my patient. You know Rifaximin is difficult to get in India. It will take me a month to arrange it ; however I can lay my hands on NITAZOXANIDE as we had got a consignment in our hospital for our AIDS patients. If we can use it what would be the dose and regime ?? . Alone or in combination ?. Would be ever so gratefull if you could once again confer with Dr B. and get back to me . My patient is really going thru hell !!.

Mr D completed the full course 3 weeks ago and is now symptomfree and has a clear stool test. We will have to wait and see if it relapses. He took 1000mg NITAZ BID and 600mg RIFAX TID. If he is symptomless for 3 months wthen we can safely assume he has got rid of it. The only side effects with the regime has been very severe Hyperacidity. This is not surprising as he has been on some form or the other of Antibiotics for the past 4 years !!. I will get back to you. Many many thanks to you and Dr B. for your regime.
Kind regards.

It has just been a month since he finished the 3 week course. He is symptom free at the moment but has developed severe hyperacidity, for which he has been prescribed a proton pump inhibitor. The last time he took just RIFAX 600 TID for 14 days he relapsed after 6 weeks, therefore we will test his stool every month and should he cross 3 months with no relapse, then we can confirm a cure. .I will keep you posted. The combination of RIFAX and NITAZ at such heavy doses should in all probability sterilize his GIT completely !- lets wait and see. Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year !!.

This is the patient replying to you !!. I have had Blasto for 4 years and went mad !! every combination in the book was tried and failed . RIFAXIMIN alnoe also relapsed after 2 months. I took a combination of RIFAX 600mg TID and NITAZ 1000 mg BD for 21 days. It is now 2 1/2 months and am feeling fine. KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED !. So many people suffer from BLASTO without knowing and Drs seem so ignorant about it. Thanks to you and Dr Borody I got the right regime . Is PANIC attacks one of the symptoms with epigastric distress ? it is horrible !.

KD recontacted in April. He is still symptom free and doing well.
